It’s a book about 6 inches, square-ish, with a hard plastic exterior, and carry handle. It’s battery operated with a voice that speaks an animal name when you tap a picture.
The pages are thin, floppy plastic sheets with flat but smoothish texture (like a frosted paperback cover almost). I dislike how heavy and hard the book is (it can be a weapon), but I like how durable the plastic pages are.
There are tabs and color coding for where the animals live, like “farm, ocean, forest.” I think there are 10 environments, and there are 9 animals per page, so it covers a lot.
Lots of the animal pictures are photos, but bunches are drawings. I wish they were all photos, but I still like the mix. It includes specifics like “ladybug, tarantula,” and also common ones like “rabbit, wolf.”
I removed the batteries almost immediately. I did not like the voice because by the time my baby pushes an animal and the book speaks, the baby has pressed another animal, so that’s confusing compared to me pointing and saying the animal names myself. In addition, I thought the voice sounded like a robot talking underwater. It was hard to understand. It’s a sit together book in my opinion, even though I think the marketing idea was for it to be an independent kids book.
It was a gift to me, and I do like the variety and simplicity for a thorough kids animal book. I have not found a replacement for the durability, variety, and quantity of animals covered for a small kids book, so I have and definitely will keep it for the long term.
